SciTech Exhibition

The SciTech Exhibition gives you the opportunity to come and talk to the leading science and technology programs in the Middle East region. If you liked a certain talk, then this is the place to follow up with the speakers to get involved or just stay connected to the latest that they are doing. The Arab World is in dire need of change, and the exhibition seeks to facilitate conversations around how you can contribute to the region. 

Below you can find a floor plan and a list of all the companies and programs that will be attending the SciTech conference. They are looking to develop partnerships, hire interns and full-time roles, and talk to some of the best & brightest minds of the region!

Al tareeq

Al Tareeq is a group of recent college graduates and established entrepreneurship and Arabic culture professors who came together with the goal of providing Middle Eastern Students in the Levant with an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, leadership, and business through intensive summer courses. Our comprehensive curriculum is based loosely off of Babson Colleges entrepreneurship department, and will include a myriad of teaching techniques in order to keep all students engaged. Through these courses, we hope to inspire a wave of young leaders who wish to incite social change in the region through social entrepreneurship. We want Al-Tareeq alumni to emerge as pioneers in the region and use what they have learnt to better their communities.

Arab Alumni Association

The MIT Arab Alumni Association's (MIT AAA) vision is an Arab world in which its people are creative, productive, prosperous, healthy, and contributing to the highest interests of humanity. It’s mission is to bring MIT's rigor and opportunities to the Arab world, and to bring the Arab world's talent and energy to MIT. Since its inception in the late 1990’s, MIT-AAA has pioneered and developed a regional conference model for which it received the MIT Presidential citation. These high profile regional conferences brought together the MIT community from Cambridge with alumni/ae and leaders in the region under the patronage of the heads of state in the different countries where the conferences took place: Cairo (2000), Amman (2001), Beirut (2002), Dubai (2003), Tunis (2004),  Abu Dhabi (2009), Dubai (2013), and Kuwait (2015).

CCES-KACST

Tackling engineering systems challenges requires an engineering problem-solving mind-set, as well as new framing and modeling methodologies. The Center for Complex Engineering Systems (CCES) at MIT and KACST was created to improve our understanding of these systems and to jointly conduct world-class research. This requires an unprecedented level of inter-disciplinary collaboration among scientists and engineers who study nature, technology and social phenomena at multiple scales. We expect that the research resulting from CCES will lead to a significant improvement in our ability to analyze, design and manage complex engineering systems worldwide.

Derq is a Dubai & Detroit based MIT spin-off and Techstars alum with a mission to eliminate road accidents and save lives by using artificial intelligence and V2X technology. Through its proprietary technology, Derq can predict and help prevent road collisions for both conventional and autonomous vehicles leveraging smart cities and connected vehicles ecosystem. Derq was founded in 2016. The company is headquartered in Dubai with offices in Detroit.

MISTI ARAB WORLD

Launched in 2014, the MIT-Arab World Program — a part of MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) — was created in an effort to strengthen ties between MIT and countries of the Arab World. Through student projects and faculty collaborations, the program offers opportunities for immersive and meaningful interaction in the region with the aim to empower participants to be bridges between MIT, the United States and the Arab World.

Qimmah

Qimmah is a nonprofit organization that aims to increase the number of Arab students admitted into world class universities. Guides to exams, application systems, personal essays, and other beneficial application-related materials can be found on Qimmah's website. Interested students
can also apply to the free Qimmah Mentorship Program where they are mentored by volunteers from colleges such as Princeton, Yale, UC Berkeley, Stanford and MIT.

Qimmah aims to reshape interactions between students in the Arab world that have successfully secured spots, and pursued higher education in top universities and aspiring applicants.

Ranam is an app that teaches Arabic musical instruments in a fun, engaging and easy way! This is through listing to the user, analyzing the audio signal and giving instance performance feedback, as if ones has their tutor in their pocket. Our mission is to allow young Arabs to better express themselves and appreciate the beauty behind traditional Arabic music. Pick up your Oud, download Ranam and be heard!

 

Saal.ai

Saal.ai has been built to become the intelligent partner that can turn human interactions and data into valuable, meaningful, results-oriented intelligence across a multitude of industries. It comes at a time when humanity is witnessing a shift that sees AI and NLP play an increasingly visible, effective and critical role in the future. We use the power of NLP (Text), Computer vision (Image), Automatic Speech Recognition (Speech) and draw inspiration from Neuroscience and Philosophy to accomplish our goal.

Tarjimly

Tarjimly is a US nonprofit with the mission of solving the humanitarian language problem.

Tarjimly allows bilinguals to translate for the 23 million refugees and immigrants in need via Facebook Messenger chat sessions. Anytime. Anywhere. Fast. Free. It’s a whole new way to to help a refugee in need right from your phone. We’re a team of engineers previously at MIT, Palantir, and Facebook. In January 2018, we were backed by Y Combinator and left our jobs to work on Tarjimly full-time. Our team of ambassadors around the world help get Tarjimly in the hands of refugees and NGOs.

US-SABC

The U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) is an organization of business leaders in both countries working together to strengthen bilateral business relations through trade and investment by promoting a broader understanding among U.S. and Saudi companies, as well as providing information on specific business opportunities. Our mission is to foster, develop, and expand the business relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia by promoting trade and investment between the two countries and contributing to the accurate depiction of the business environment within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

We love reading

We Love Reading is an independent non-profit organization based in Amman aimed at encouraging the love of reading in children in Jordan and the rest of the world through the development of “a library in every neighborhood”. Founded by Dr. Rana Dajani in 2006, it has since received substantial national and international recognition. We Love Reading’s grassroots model is simple, efficient, and sustainable – it involves training community members, particularly women, to read aloud to children ages 4-10 in order to foster the love of reading and encourage community engagement.
